Milligan College Application Essay
by Hamilton Grey Shelfer

Briefly state why you have chosen Milligan and describe your current lifestyle as it relates to the expectations and responsibilities described in our student lifestyle section.

I have chosen Milligan College due to its philosophy of a "balance education" – combining its high standards of academic excellence with a Christian perspective. Another appealing aspect of the college is the manner in which the Biblical worldview is incorporated throughout the coursework. This is something I have been exposed to in my education, and I desire to continue to receive this type of instruction. We, as Christians, need this type of Biblical teaching since we live in a world that is an enemy of God and His Word. Also, I was greatly influenced by the genuine friendliness of the students, the helpfulness of the admissions department, and the enthusiasm of the professors that I met while visiting the campus last November. I am confident that I will be spiritually trained and academically prepared to enter law school upon graduation from Milligan College.

Since my most important objectives in life are growing in my relationship with Christ and leading a life that is pleasing in His sight, I find that my lifestyle complements the expectations and responsibilities required of students at Milligan College. I currently endeavor to live my life according to I Timothy 4:12 which calls us to "be an example of the believers." First of all, I strive to do this through my speech and attitudes since these are a reflection of my heart. Secondly, I try to be a Godly example by my actions and behavior. My personal relationship with Jesus calls for me to practice a pure, sincere, Christlike love for others. I am committed to seeking God's will in every area of my life. The lifestyle required of students at Milligan College is Biblically based and is already practiced by myself and my family.
